Big Year for Raw Urth

by Raw Urth

how & why: The Fort Collins studio teamed up with Boulder Architect, Carl Rohde, and Winter Park Builder, Brad Smith of Terra Firma Custom Homes, to create this year's People's Choice Award Winner, not to mention Juried Winner, of the 2009 Grand County Parade of Homes show stopper in Colorado. Along these same accomplishments, the "Cherry Hills" Range Hood was hand picked for the Lafayette, Louisiana's Annual Designer Showcase Home this year, a charitable event raising money for the Acadiana Symphony. Meanwhile, the "Durango" Range Hood was selected for the 2009 Parade of Homes show home built by BL Rieke and Associates, Inc. in Lenexa, Kansas. "These are great honors and we are very proud of our studio artisans for creating such craftsmanship. Our steel details really helped showcase the quality of these homes and we are very proud," said a spokesperson from Raw Urth.

Colorado-based company creating outdoor fire accessories that are unique, head turners.

by Raw Urth

how & why: Raw Urth, a Ft. Collins, CO based decorative steel com-pany, has launched a new series of outdoor Fire Feature products that include fireplaces, firepits and sculptural pieces. Starting at $3,400, they are all handcrafted, one at a time in their studio. The company issued a press release stating that, "As a whole, the market for outdoor entertainment has become an extension of the home. We saw it as an opportunity to bring high-quality and beauty to a niche market that hasn~t seen much design diversity to the standard fire pit products. We are changing that."

Their styles fit not only the rustic lifestyle, but the modern urbanite as well.

New Launch of Range Hoods Take IHBS By Storm

by Raw Urth

how & why: Due to the popularity of their custom steel work, Raw Urth has launched a innovative line of Range Hoods at the International Home Builders' Show in Las Vegas. With ten designs in Traditional and Modern Rustic styles and five unique, but to-die-for finishes, one of these above your stovetop will sure to create a stir especially with guests. What's even more incredible is that each hood is handcrafted by artisans and built using recycled steel. Gorgeous and ecological! Raw Urth on to Bigger and Better Things

by Raw Urth

how & why: Cramped quarters and a growing business lead Raw Urth to purchase a facility in the Ft. Collins Enterprise Zone on the north end of downtown. The announcement was made by Raw Urth, a custom steel studio, earlier today. The larger, renovated facility can handle much larger jobs and more client projects with a secondary building they hope to dedicate to future production line items. Ft. Collins Steel Studio Earns Devil's Thumb Ranch Work

by Raw Urth

how & why: In the valley between two mountain ranges near Winter Park, Colorado lies cross-country haven, Devil's Thumb Ranch. It has just been announced by the developer of a new 52 room eco-lodge being built on the ranch property that Raw Urth has been awarded all of the custom steel work on the project. Raw Urth, who is working closely with Carla Ooms, the interior designer, will be responsible for the fully hand forged horse bridle-like railings and barware shelves to fireplace screens, andirons, fire tools and gates. Amy Sasick, co-owner of Raw Urth, issued a statement saying, "It's an incredible opportunity to really show off our blacksmithing skills." It was the intention of the owners to keep the lodge true to the rustic, ranch style and therefore chose a blacksmith studio over fabricators.

THIS OLD HOUSE ONLINE: “Best New Kitchen and Bath Products”

how & why: At this year's International Builders’ Show, many manufacturers were pushing products designed to improve the busiest rooms in the house: the kitchen and bathroom. Some companies touted their cool technology, others their dramatic designs. A few managed to do both. Here are the most interesting items we discovered, without concern for budget.

Raw Urth Designs: Rustic Range Hoods Raw Urth's handcrafted range hoods have the rough industrial look of something salvaged from a 19th- century factory. Seams and rivets are left exposed. The hoods are made of recycled steel from melted-down cars and come in 10 styles and three beautifully oxidized patinas. Just the thing for a rustic cabin in the mountains.
